These plans will build a trundle bed train platform. That is, a train platform that can be rolled under a bed for storage. If you are looking for a simple train platform design that is easy to put away when not in use, espescially for a child's bedroom, this may be for you. The basic platform is built in an open grid pattern. This type of benchwork offers relatively simple construction, strong support and ample flexibility for many designs.
The plans shown here will fit beneath a typical twin-size bed. You can easily modify this design for whatever size space you have available. With a platform this size, 72" by 38" overall, you could build many trackplans in O, HO, N or Z scales. Up to an 18" radius curve can be accomodated, although this will put the tracks right on the edges of the platform. This will allow tight, but manageable curves for HO or O scales, or more generous curves in N or Z. Other children's train toys could also be used.

Note that the spacing between cross-braces as given on the plan are 12" on center, this is not the actual space between boards. Follow the detailed assembly instructions for a similar platform for the Rio Grande Project Layout, changing the dimensions as necessary for this or your own plans.
