On30 narrow gauge modelers have often combined parts from both O and HO scales. The trains are after all proportionally O (1:48) but run on HO gauge track.

With little commercially available in this gauge until recently, creativity, scratchbuilding and kitbashing were valuable skills in this part of the hobby. This little diesel is a good example of all of those.

Parts of the model were certainly made from scratch, or borrowed from other O scale engines, but what really caught my eye were the two "hoods." These are HO scale BL-2 locomotives! By adding a few new details and shaving off some of the old, the 1:87 shells work perfectly to recreate some of the unique "critters" of these narrow gauge lines. And it proves that when kitbashing, you don't even need to stay within your own scale to create a great model.
