The Possum Valley Short Line

Sunday July 13, 2008

Yesterday Nancy Parode, About.com's guide to Senior Travel, said she'd like to see me do more posts on narrow gauge railroads. Well, in keeping with my TT Scale focus this weekend, let's take a look at the Possum Valley Short Line. The PVSL is the work of Elmer McKay, author of the TTScale.com website, proprietor of Possum Valley Models, and one of the most respected members of the TT scale modeling community. The Possum Valley Short Line is the most elaborate TT scale layout I've seen on the web. Besides the great images linked above, Elmer has posted pages on the construction of the layout.

The name "Possum Valley Short Line" applies only to the narrow gauge portion of Elmer's layout. This is a dual gauge TT scale layout. The standard gauge portion is called the Kenosha & Western. Another series of Elmer's photo pages shows an assortment of American prototype TT Scale rolling stock. And, on one of the best technical pages I've seen on trackwork, Elmer shows how he made his dual gauge track.

Although the Possum Valley Models website says that the enterprise is currently "in limbo" due to a move, recent posts by Elmer to a TT Scale modeler's email list indicate that he should be back in business soon. This is great news for the American TT Scale community.
