The Verband der Modelleisenbahner und Eisenbahnfreunde Europas, which translates from the German to "European Union of Model Railroad and Railroad Friends", (MOROP) is the European federation which governs national federations for railroad modelers and rail fans in Europe. The federation is based in in Berne, Switzerland.
MOROP was founded in Genova, Italy in 1954 to meet the need for a governing body to set standards for the fast-growing European model railroad industry.
MOROP's primary focus is the setting of the Normen Europäischer Modellbahnen (NEM), which translated from the German is "European standards for model railroads". The NEM standards are set by MOROP's Technical Commission (CT) in collaboration with the European manufacturers of model railroading products. Since 1994 MOROP has had close ties with the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) which creates the standards for the USA. Standards for Digial Command Control (DCC) have been created in cooperation with NMRA, making DCC almost a worldwide standard.
