When we think of hopper cars, we think coal. Several manufacturers make pre-sized coal loads for a variety of hopper cars. You can greatly improve the look of premade plastic molds (start with step 5) or you can make loads yourself. The same techniques will also work for stone, coke, iron ore or woodchips.
Gondolas are also often used to carry these same materials. The same techniques will work for loading them too.
