HO Scale Cityscape

Details make the difference when recreating the hustle and bustle of life in the big city.
HO Scale Cityscape

Even without a train in sight, action abounds on this city street. Traffic and pedestrians negotiate road construction and sidewalk displays as the railroad crossing guard keeps watch from above.

Some scenes reveal something new the longer you look. The chaos of a busy city street ca. 1955 is captured in the details of this scene on the Pennsylvania Landscapes HO scale model railroad exhibit at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.

Structures and vehicles set the stage. Smaller details like the utility crew, street lamps, and sidewalk displays help fill in the gaps. Then you notice the guard in the crossing shanty and the dog and trashcans in the alley. Layer upon layer of details add both interest and a sense of perspective. Shooting in black and white and leaving a train out of the scene adds a touch of nostalgia and keeps your eyes roving around the scenery.
