Lionel, LLC was formed in 1969 by cereal manufacturer General Mills. The words "Since 1900" on their logo reflect the fact that Lionel, LLC owns the rights to products produced by the original Lionel Corporation, which had gone out of business. Lionel Corporation was formed in 1900 and soon became world-famous for its innovations in model railroading. Lionel LLC manufactures and distributes replicas of vintage Lionel Corp. products as well as many new products of their own design.
