F9 (EMD)

From , former About.com Guide

Statistics:

Motive Power: Diesel Electric
Dates of Manufacture: Feb. 1953 – May 1960
Manufacturer: General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD)
Number Produced: 100 A units, 154 B units
Wheel Arrangement: B-B

Notes:

The fifth model in the F Unit series was the F9. Low production numbers on the F9 are due to the fact that by the time the F9 locomotives were built, railroads were shifting to the new to the road switcher-style of locomotive. As a result, the F9 was a less popular selection than EMD's GP9 engine.
