L Girder

This basic L-girder is made from two strips of plywood ripped to 2.5 inch widths. The strips can be assembled with glue and nails or screws.

Definition:

L Girders are structural components of model railroad benchwork. Shaped like an inverted "L," these beams are a primary component of a style of platform construction that carries the same name.

L Girders can be made from wood or plywood in any size or length. Normally they are run horizontally to support cross-braces which in turn support the trackbed. L Girders can also be used vertically to make legs to support the benchwork.
