With the lights completed, it is time to install them on the model structures. If you are installing multiple lights, measure each location for consistency. Lights are typically centered over doors, loading docks, walkways and the like. Study the prototype for inspiration.
Mark the location(s) on the building's wall with a pencil. If you are not lighting the fixture, simply glue it in place. Cyanoacrylate Adhesive (CA), or "super glue" works well. To light the fixture, follow these extra steps:
- Using your locating mark, drill a hole for the bulb with the same No. 61 drill bit used on the back of the security light itself.
- Insert the bulb through the hole in the building first to help align the light.
- Put a small drop of Cyanoacrylate Adhesive (CA) on the back of the light. Press it over the bulb and hold it in place on the wall until the glue sets.
- Run the wires for the bulb through the building. Having a building with a removable roof, walls or floor makes this much easier. You can tie the wires into the interior lighting. Run all of the wires to a wiring bus under the layout and on to the power supply.
Now that you know how to make and install these lights, there's nothing stopping you from creating a new design for your next project.
