As you can probably tell from the weekly Freight Car Friday features, I've always found freight cars to be one of the most interesting parts of railroads. Of all the various types on the rails, for some reason I seem to favor covered hoppers.

When I first started in the hobby, modelers had about 4 options for covered hoppers in inexpensive plastic models. Today, not only have manufacturers helped by filling in a lot of the major voids, we've also been treated to details even the most diligent modelers wouldn't have dreampt of twenty years ago.
The Tangent Scale Models PS-2CD 4000 is one of those new excellent models worthy of note. More than 2000 of these distinctive cars between 1962 and 1964. They remained common on the rails through the turn of the century.
Tangent's model captures the look of this car down to the last rivet. Indeed, it has some of the finest details I've seen on an HO scale covered hopper yet. Whether you love covered hoppers as much as I do, or just need another common car for your railroad, you won't be disappointed in this model. Read my complete review for more details.
