Although it is in many ways similar to the F59PH presented in the last blog, it doesn't take a long look to see the changes in the locomotives' design from the outside. The F59PHI features a very streamlined and rounded profile, using composite materials in place of steel in several places on the carbody.
Internally, the locomotive is notable for being the first to meet new clean-air standards in California in the 1990s. Consequently, the California coast remains the best location to catch one of these sleek locomotives.
Despite only selling 74 units, the unique lines and paint schemes found on this stunning locomotive have made it quite popular with manufacturers. The F59PHI has been modeled in Z, N, HO and O. Learn more about it in this new locomotive profile.
