Autoracks, high-cubes, piggy-back flatcars, even passenger cars can all cause some extra headaches with their extra length. They require bigger curves and switches and often special handling. But there are a few simple things you can do to make them run more reliably.

In addition to the things you should do to any car regardless of length, checking all wheels and couplers are in gauge, etc., a few extra minutes of attention to the couplers can make them operate as well as a car half their size. If you've got some long cars on your roster, you'll want to check out these basic tips.
