Of all the great model railroads on display in Trainfest, the one which left the greatest impact on me personally was the Modutrak group's rendition of part of the Milwaukee Road.

The attention to detail and design in this N scale layout would be impressive in any home or club, but for a modular group they displayed great innovations.
Most modules were based on specific scenes and all used the latest in scenery techniques, scratchbuilt structures and high detail. And the modules flowed seamlessly from one to the next. Perhaps more unique were the superelvated curves, rights of way designed to reflect proper subroadbed and drainage, and the high legs of the platforms which put all of the fine details at a height adults could enjoy.
This image of one of the Milwaukee's famous Northerns leaning into a sweeping curve through open fields is evocative of the overall quality of the entire layout. Hard to believe this is N scale... even harder to believe it's a portable railroad!
