Civil War Railroads

Whether you model Civil War era railroads or not, anybody can appreciate the work that has gone into Bernard Kempinski's layout.

The layout depicts the Aquia-Fredericksburg line of the US Military Railroad in 1863 in O scale. A tremendous amount of historic research has gone into the project. Civil War buffs will enjoy it even if you're not a modeler.

Thanks to his great photography and captions, modelers will enjoy in even if you're not a historian. The blog is updated weekly with topics ranging from making trees to painting figures to building structures. It is truly a first-class layout and worth repeat visits.

Incidentally, today marks the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln's arrival in Washington D.C. after a long and secretive journey by train.  The rest, as they say, is history.
