No Time For Old Time?
On The Model Railroader forum there's a post announcing their rather extensive "preliminary" online report covering the National Train Show in Anaheim last week. I responded to the thread thanking them and offering links to my own more modest report and Joe Fugate's reports as well. There haven't been a lot of subsequent responses so far, but the ones who do post are lamenting the fact that, based on what we've written, there wasn't much in the way of early rail offerings.
Now I have to admit that I wasn't specifically looking for old time trains. But, as I do have a couple from Athearn, I was surprised when I didn't see them in Athearn's booth. When I asked one of the Athearn reps about their Moguls and Consolidations he didn't appear to know what I was talking about. When I said, like the ones in the Thunder Rails sets, he said "This is Athearn. Thunder Rails is Atlas". He was wrong, but I didn't argue with him. Now, in fairness to Athearn, they offer a lot of products. And perhaps this fellow was an HO specialist. But I do love my Athearn old west D&RGW trains, and I was surprised that I didn't see the new Thunder Rails trains in the display case.
Convention goers, did you notice any 19th Century or early 20th Century prototypes at the show that aren't covered in the MRR National Train Show report my own report on the show, or Joe Fugate's reports? Please, let us know what you you saw, and everyone is welcome to say what they think, by posting in our forum.
