I came across a blog post today about the longest model train on record, according to Guinness World Records. The record is held by Miniatur Wunderland, the fabulous model railroad layout in Hamburg, Germany. (And one of the many model train museums and layouts listed on my museum page). According to this blog post on November 27, 2005 Miniature Wunderland set up an 890 car train... 3 locomotives and 887 carriages (the European term for passenger cars). This train was in HO scale, and measured nearly 362 feet in length.
Although the blog post went up only today, I wasn't going to write about it in my own blog due to the fact that the record is nearly three years old. But then I played the YouTube video that was posted with the blog entry. I expected to watch three minutes of an 890 car train passing the camera. 'm not sure the video has any footage of the world record train. What it does have is some amazing footage of the magnificent Miniature Wunderland layout, including some of its spectacular animated features. I'm sure you'll enjoy this video in the World Amazing Records blog post.
