What's Up with LGB?

Monday July 7, 2008
I was doing some routine manufacturer profile maintenance on my web site when I discovered that LGB, the original manufacturer of G scale trains, is no more. Both the LGB of America web site and the German parent company's sites are gone. Both their URLs take you to an "Update" page. The links on this page seem to indicate that LGB, as well as PIKO, BRAWA and others are now distributed in the US by Silvergate Distributors. The "Update" page also indicates that Ernst Paul Lehmann Patentwerk, the originator of LGB*, was taken over by Marklin. Although I've done numerous web searches, I haven't been able to completely piece together what exactly happened. I've tried to contact Silvergate Distributors, but the contact links on their apparently new website aren't working properly. If anyone has a contact at Silvergate, would you please have them email me? I'd like to post accurate information about LGB's current manufacturing and distribution.

* LGB actually stands for "Lehmann Gross Bahn", which is German for "Lehmann’s Big Train."
