Kato NW-2 Switcher Locomotives

Friday July 4, 2008
A few days back I noticed Kato was featuring N scale Union Pacific NW-2 switcher locomotives on their home page. The "New Releases" pull-down menu had a new option which read, "NW-2 Union Pacific". As I don't collect or model Union Pacific (and I already write more about Kato than any other manufacturer that I never get any feedback from) I didn't bother writing that one up. I found the photos from the Derby City Express much more interesting. But this morning I noticed a post in one of the forums about Pennsylvania Railroad NW-2s from Kato. I went back to the Kato home page and re-read the NW-2 info. Nothing. Then, under "Coming Soon" I noticed "N END NW2 PRR Announced" I clicked the link and it took me to the same page as the pull-down menu "NW-2 Union Pacific" link... a page with two UP NW-2s adorning the top. This time I scrolled to the bottom of that page. There I discovered that Kato is offering the NW-2 locomotive in six roadnames. They're being offered in Santa Fe, Burlington, Chessie, SP, UP and PRR. I guess the UP and PRR are new, I've had the Santa Fe tiger stripe for a while now. These locomotives accept a Digitrax DN123K3 drop-in DCC decoder. MSRP is $100.
